Orr Family Photography At Home in Decatur

I’ve been photographing the Orr family for years now, starting with a maternity session when they were patiently awaiting the arrival of their first son. We recently met up for another session in honor of their second son's first birthday, and it was a heartwarming experience that made me reflect on the journey we've shared through my photos.

Getting to know families over time is my favorite part of being a family photographer. It’s a unique privilege to watch a family grow and change, capturing images that will become cherished memories. With the Orr family, I've had the pleasure of documenting their story from the anticipation of their first child to the joyous milestones that have followed. Each session adds a new chapter to their story, and it's a joy to be a part of their lives in this way.

For this most recent session, we met at their house, which is my favorite place to photograph a family. There's something incredibly special about capturing moments in the place where life truly happens. Home is where everyone is most comfortable, where genuine smiles and natural interactions occur. The familiarity of home allows for a relaxed atmosphere, making it easier to capture the essence of the family’s unique dynamics. Plus it’s so much easier to include pets at home, and their adorable pup definitely made it into the photos.

We spent a couple of laid-back hours together, filled with real life love. Their youngest son proudly showed off his new walking skills, taking wobbly but determined steps, and getting right back up after face plants. His older brother, full of curiosity and energy, searched for roly polies in the driveway, and bubbles off the back porch. These simple, everyday moments are what make life beautiful, and capturing them is a reminder of how precious these times are.

Photographing the Orr family at their home allowed me to create images that are not just portraits but stories. Stories of growth, love, and the simple joys of childhood. These are the images that the Orr family will look back on and cherish, remembering not just how they looked but how they felt in these fleeting moments.

As a family photographer, there’s nothing more fulfilling than being invited into the intimate spaces of a family’s life and being trusted to preserve their memories. Each session with the Orr family has deepened my appreciation for the connections and trust that develop over time. It’s a reminder of why I love what I do—documenting moments of real life, and not just perfectly posed portraits.
