A Year in the (schooled) Life | Documentary Family Photography | Coming this Summer to Atlanta

Inspired by my Year in the Life project, in which I have regular documentary family photo sessions throughout the calendar year and then deliver the year's highlights in an album, this project will follow and document just one child throughout the school year. Of course the rest of the family will be around and included some, but these sessions will focus on one child.

Wilson Maternity Session in Kirkwood and Legacy Park

I'm excited to share a glimpse into a recent maternity session that was an absolute dream to shoot. I'm all about that candid family photography life, because those are the moments that make life truly special. The moments that aren't scripted or rehearsed, but just happen naturally, like the spontaneous giggles of your little ones or the tender moments shared between soon-to-be parents.

Capturing Moments Through candid family photography: A Year in Review and Looking Ahead to 2024

It was such a wonderful year for Chanda Williams Photography, and I am very grateful for every family whose life I got to take a peek into…This year really solidified my desire to work on long term projects with families. I adore the long-term relationships I've built with clients as we work together to tell their family story. When there is a trust a rapport already established, I'm able to slip into the moment and get beautiful and honest photos of family life

Freddie’s 6 month Old Photo Session near Emory

Life with a 6 month old is busy—not with big events, but with a constant hum of activity, and it’s these little moments that get me excited. Between waking up, eating, a trip to the park and then getting ready for nap time, so much happens that is really beautiful. Candid family photography, rather than staged or posed photos, pull out these tiny moments that make up life and show the beauty in our everyday.

Igleheart Family Photography Session in Oakhurst

I recently got to hang out with and photograph the Igleheart family in their backyard. We played in the fort, made and ate s'mores, used the garden hose to clean off the toy car and then the rest of the family, and dug in the dirt. After all that it was time for an epic bubble bath, which naturally involved chaos, sweetness and tickles.

7 Things I Love and Look For at Family Photo Sessions

My style of family photography is mostly documentary family photography, meaning completely unposed, authentic, fly on the wall photographs of real connections, personalities and everyday life. I say mostly because I think family portraits are important to take occasionally, and I try to give a few good ones to every family I work with.

The Meehan Newborn Photography Session at Candler Park

The Meehan Newborn Photography Session at Candler Park

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a beautiful family of four at Candler Park. To be honest, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect from the session, especially given that it was my first outdoor newborn shoot. One of the elements of newborn photography that I love the most is capturing the essence of the home each family has created. Whether a home is full of chaos or calm, it is an integral part of a family's story, reflecting their unique rhythm and life.

Penny’s 1st Birthday | A Korean Dol in Atlanta

I was so honored to photograph Penny's 1st birthday party last week. It was my first Korean Dol, and it was lovely. Of course when I was first contacted to photograph the event I jumped on Wikipedia, which explained:

Dol (doljanchi, or tol) is probably one of the best-known of the Korean birthday celebrations. Dol is celebrated for the first birthday of a child. When Korea had little medicinal knowledge, many newborns would die from childhood diseases or because of Korea’s seasonal temperature differences. When a child lived to be a year old during that period, it was a very joyous occasion.

Olin’s Newborn Photo Session at Home in Decatur

I photographed this sweet little baby when he was two weeks old, and I can't believe that it has already been two months since he joined us. He already looks so different than he did at first, which is why I love to capture newborns in the first couple of weeks. I think that there is a sweet spot for newborn photos--I like to wait for them to "wake up" a little, but not so long that they no longer look like newborns. I find that to be around two-three weeks old.

Thoele Family Photo Session in Avondale

Most of the leaves have fallen in Atlanta, the cold has arrived, and the busy fall family photo season is coming to an end. It was a fun one, for sure, with too many awesome families to do a blog post on every single one. But the Thoele family's session was one of my favorites. A great example of documentary family photography, as I didn’t direct or pose them, but instead I simply hung out with them as they went for a walk around the neighborhood, and I made pictures out of their personalities and connections.

Atlanta Birth Center is Now Open!

What an honor to attend the very first birth at the very first birth center in Atlanta! So many people have been working on opening a birth center for many years, so it was a little surreal to actually be there last week. I was honored to be asked to photograph the first birth center birth, and to be part of such an amazing group of women who believe that birth is normal.
