Patton Family Photo Session At Home in Inman Park

Some highlights from a recent photo session--my favorite type of session: chill candid family photography at home.

I spent a delightful morning with a lovely family, capturing precious moments in their home and garden. This photography session was especially memorable because they were moving to a new city the following week. This photoshoot was a great way to honor the time they spent in Atlanta and in this home.

My goal was to create creative and authentic family photos that truly reflected their story. I wanted to capture the essence of their family dynamic - the joy, the laughter, and the little moments that make them who they are.

We started in the garden, where the kids ran around giggling and picking the cucumbers they'd grown. The sunlight streaming through the trees created a beautiful backdrop for candid shots. I encouraged them to be themselves, capturing their genuine expressions and interactions as they enjoyed their time together.

We ventured into the backyard where they showed me their super cool play structure. The children's excitement was palpable as they explored their surroundings. They climbed their rock wall, played with their dog, and swung in their disc swing.

We made our way inside for a bit. The family wanted to remember the time they spent in their media room tossing popcorn in the air to catch in their mouths...lots of missing and laughter made for some fun photos.

I also documented the girl's playing in their bedroom, followed by story time with Mom.

All of these carefree moments brought out their true personalities, resulting in some artful and joy-filled photographs.

As a documentary family photographer, my approach is to capture real and honest moments without any forced poses or artificial setups. I want each image to evoke emotion and tell a story. This session allowed us to do just that - portray the beautiful bond between this family in an authentic and artful way.

I'm grateful to have had the opportunity to document this special time in their lives before their big move. These photographs will serve as cherished memories of their time spent at home, in the garden, and in the backyard.
