Atlanta Family Yearbook | A Year in the Life | June 2024

Documentary Family Photography

Candid photographs are magical. It’s that simple. Yes, my clients of course know they are being photographed, but the connections and personalities that shine through when they are just being themselves and I am making documentary family photographs are deliciously real. I don’t know how often I compose a documentary shot and think “Whelp…I just couldn’t have made that up,” because real life is the best! People, and families, are silly and complex, and while portraits are an important piece of history, the artful candids are so much more interesting.

Year in the Life

Year in the Life is a subscription family photography service that I offer to families who want what I do for my own family: multiple sessions throughout the year with a gorgeous album of highlights at the end. This project has been a game changer for me, and really made it clear that I want to document families over time. Some things you might love about Year in the Life:

  • It’s a set it and forget it way to ensure that you are capturing pieces of your crazy busy life as parents that goes by so quickly. It's so easy, and perfect for how busy you are.

  • It’s a way to be sure that you are in some of the photos! Not only do you exist but you are totally rocking this parenthood thing (on most days).

  • Not only will you have amazing authentic storytelling pictures on a hard drive, but you will have an album that you can hold in your hands for so many years to come. Your grandkids will be able to see how magic your family is.

Year in the Life | June 2024

June was a busy (and hot) month! The “real feel” temperature was over 100 most days, and oh the humidity. It was brutal. So my Year in the Life families did a lot of water play—big pools, little pools, sprinklers, and walking in a creek. We celebrated a birthday, painted rocks, welcomed two new kittens to the family, ate ice cream and picked blackberries. It was a very summery month and I had a blast.

Enjoy some of my favorite photos from June 2024 Year in the Life photo sessions.

I met this Year in the Life family at a hiking trail they’ve been going to lately, and we explored the woods and walked in the nice (cool) creek. After a bit we headed back to their house to cool off with the water table and sprinklers in the backyard. It’s crazy how much this little guy has changed since I met him a few months ago!

I walked over to the Land Trust with this Year in the Life family, where bubbles and finding a breeze on the swing was a must. Then we walked over to the Pullman Yards for cold drinks and sweet treats. I love including the family’s neighborhood in our session, as the backdrop of so much of their life…and in Atlanta I know it will look different before too long.

To celebrate this big boy’s birthday we hung out in the backyard with family, a kiddie pool and popsicles. Some of the berries were ripe on the vine, so that was a fun treat. It’s always fun when extended family makes an appearance at Year in the Life sessions, too!

Oh my goodness, this was an exciting one. Mom and Dad picked up two new kittens and waited for my arrival to introduce them to the kids. Of course beautiful chaos ensued, as the kids snuggled (and chased) the kittens, and made a list of possible names.

The rain didn’t stop this Year in the Life family from hanging out in the pool! The girls showed me all of their amazing swim moves, and how high their dad can get them going on their very cool saucer swing. After a bit they all made pizzas together that looked pretty amazing.

Rock painting on the front porch meant a little bit of paint in the toddlers mouth, some in her hair thanks to big brother, and lots of snuggles and laughs. We ended up in the front yard with the sprinklers on!

This Year in the Life family was in Serenbe for the weekend visiting friends, so I went down to hang out for a couple of hours. We rode around town on the golf cart, stopped for ice cream, visited the farm and ended on the super cool trampoline around a gorgeous sunset.

Year in the Life is a 12 month subscription with 12, 6 or 4 sessions plus an album of highlights at the end of the year. A super cool family yearbook that documents and celebrates the everyday life of family.

Sign up for A Year in the Life opens in late fall, but if you want in on the project it’s best to reach out now to get on the list.
