Gilman Newborn Photos at Home in Edgewood

“Her photos are such a great representation of our life right now and our family, and they're a treasure to get to keep forever. She makes the process easy and accessible and not awkward at all which is so rare when having photos taken. The day felt so special and I'm thrilled to have these memories recorded!”

Newborn Photos at Home

I recently had the pleasure of photographing a sweet new family of three at their home in the Edgewood neighborhood of Atlanta. It’s such an honor to be invited into a home at such an intimate time, during so much transition, and to be asked to document the real unscripted moments that unfold naturally.

I fell in love with the Gillman family as soon as I walked into the nursery and saw the baby jean jacket hanging up—I mean come on!.. Baby girl was just waking up from her morning nap, and her smiles when she saw her mom lit up the room. The family hung out together as I tagged along—snuggles on the couch with the dogs, sitting on the porch swing and making coffee with baby girl in the carrier. All of these little pieces that make up their everyday life right now—for this brief moment of time while they live in the cocoon of parental leave.

If there was ever a time when the saying “The days are long but the years are short” was more true, it’s this newborn phase. It feels like every day is the same and yet you learn so much every day, and then you turn around and the phase has passed.

Documentary Sessions are Perfect for the Newborn Season

The biggest reason that documentary style photo sessions are perfect for newborn sessions is comfort. I come to you at home, and there is nothing that you need to do to get ready. You do not need to figure out the timing of getting everyone ready and into the car and through traffic. You don’t even need shoes. You and your family can relax, and just be yourselves in the space you know best.

Because everyone is the most relaxed and comfortable when they’re at home, the result will be genuine moments that make authentic photos of your life. No cookie cutter family pictures here, just real life love and beauty.

Documentary newborn sessions tell a story and include personal details like the nursery and favorite family spaces. Everyday routines are turned into memories that you will cherish once they are gone.

Documentary Sessions are Perfect At Home

Your home is such a big part of your story! Being at home for our photo session helps to tell your unique story. Plus there is a good chance your baby won’t remember the house you live in at this moment, so it’s fun to ground your photos in a special place. Real life is full of so many details that you lose when you go to a studio or a random park.

If the idea of a photographer coming to your house freaks you out a little, I get it—but your home doesn’t need to be perfect for stunning photos, it just needs to be yours. You can tidy some if you want to, but definitely wear comfortable clothes, and truly embracing the chaos. If everyone is relaxed and enjoying their time together, we will make beautiful pictures that you will love.

The best documentary photos require time, so the more time we block off the more you will be able to relax into spending time with your family—regardless of tantrums and diaper blowouts. That’s why I recommend a session that is longer than one hour for newborns. More than one client has said to me “Oh. Now I get why you said an hour might not be enough time.”

Newborn photoshoots at home are as unique as your family is, and are a stress free approach to documenting this lovely life you’ve made. Hit the button below to book your newborn session at home.
